“Zoo: An excellent place to study the habits of human beings”
― Evan Esar
For Christmas, my wife and I were gifted year long passes to the Detroit Zoo. We had taken the kids there many times but I had never been in the winter. So on a mild winter day we headed up to the zoo to use our passes for the first time. It was a little chilly out but we were prepared with our winter gear. A big benefit of going in the winter is the lack of a crowd. It was nice to be able to take our time and enjoy everything instead of fighting through a mess of people while sweating profusely in the hot sun like we usually do.
I knew Ashley and Travis's engagement session was coming up soon so it wasn't long before I realized the perfect place to take them. There are so many photographic possibilities at the Detroit Zoo, the only limit is the imagination. Even today, I am still thinking of more framing and background opportunities to take advantage of next time I go.
I brought the idea up to them and they said they were game. Travis had never been there before so I'm sure it was extra fun for him. We all had a good time getting to know each other and exploring the grounds. I think we even got a few cool pictures :)
Ashley and Travis are my kind of people and I can't wait to shoot their wedding in March. I'm confident that hanging out with them on their wedding day won't feel like as much of a job as it is a party with friends. It's coming up quick you guys!
